A method for purifying interleukin-10 (IL-10) is described. This method involves the solution containing IL-10 by cation exchange chromatography, anion exchange chromatography, hydroxyapatite chromatography and gel filtration chromatography. The present invention also includes a method for separating different IL-10 dimers present in the protein fraction by hydroxyapatite chromatography of the protein fraction. The present invention also includes a method for separating protein variants having different N-terminal amino acid sequences from each other, which are present in the protein fraction by hydroxyapatite chromatography of the protein fraction.
