P A method and circuit for read-ahead of instructions / data using a non-read read-ahead cache (50), for storing blocks of instructions / data which are read-out in accordance with read-ahead mechanisms but not consulted by the central processing unit (10) in a memory on a chip as read-ahead cache not consulted without discarding them when they are replaced by new blocks in a read-ahead buffer ( 30) in such a way that direct memory consultation of the blocks of read instruction / data not consulted before can be obtained when they must be consulted at later times, without the need for research or for reading thereof in the lower part of the memory (20) again. It is possible to reduce the number of missed accesses to the cache and the memory wait time and to reduce memory traffic. /P
