PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to prolong casting time while suppressing the increase of a casting cost by providing guide pipes for guiding solid lubricants to sliding surfaces with water cooling means. ;SOLUTION: The sheet is cast continuously by pouring molten metal into the pouring basin delineated of a pair of cooling drums and a pair of side gates 2a, then cooling the molten metal to solidify. The side weirs 2a are covered with cases 7 and the surfaces facing the cooling drums are composed of thermal insulating materials 8, base members 9 and ceramic members 10. While the solid lubricants 14 are pressed through the guide pipes 15 to the sliding surfaces of the cooling drums and the side weirs 2a, the solid lubricants are continuously supplied. The guide pipes 15 are, thereupon, provided with the water cooling means to cool these pipes. Reducing gases or inert gases are introduced into the guide pipes 15 via inflow pipes 21. As a result, the prevention of the flattering of the side weirs, the prolonging of the life of the cooling drum end faces, etc., are attained.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
