PURPOSE: To make it possible to execute coding processing in a batch unit by distributing the images of postal matter of another category of the same processing unit to a prescribed video coding terminal when all of the postal matter of one category in one processing unit are distributed to this video coding terminal. ;CONSTITUTION: The postal matter P is set in the batch unit in a reading and classifying machine 1 in the state that the postal matter P having handwriting and printing types coexist. This reading and classifying machine 1 reads the images of the postal matter P and classifies the postal matter in the batch unit. A control section 16 outputs a batch processing end signal to a video distribution processing section 33. This video distribution processing section 33 determines the highest priority category by referencing a terminal category table 33b according to the image distribution request from the video coding terminal 4 and supplies the category. This control section distributes the images of the postal matter of the other category having the next highest priority when all of the postal matter images of the one category are distributed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
