Nucleotide sequence (I) encoding a polypeptide (II) with SCCE (Stratum corneum chymotryptic enzyme) activity is new. Also new are (1) expression systems contg. (I); (2) non-human organisms contg. such systems; (3) (recombinant) polypeptide (IIa) also its fragments and homologues, having a 253 amino acid sequence reproduced in the specification.
