PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce new compounds useful as a ligand for an asymmetric reducing agent. ;SOLUTION: The compounds of the formula (R1 and R2 are each a lower alkyl or phenyl; * is asymmetric carbon), e.g. (2S,3R)-2-amino-3-(t- butyldimethylsiloxy)-1,1-diphenylbutanol. The compounds of the formula are obtained by reacting an optically active threonine with a benzyloxycarbonyl halide, protecting the amino group, then reacting the protected compound with diazomethane, esterifying the carboxylic acid, subsequently reacting the resultant compound with t-butylsilyl halides, introducing t-butylsilyl group into the hydroxyl group, then reacting the prepared compound with a phenylmagnesium halide, diphenylating the ester group and subsequently deprotecting the amino group.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
