PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain the smooth movement of an image by recording the position information on the subsequent I pictures in the recording area of an I picture and referring to these position information in a fast reproducing operation mode. ;SOLUTION: The information on 8 subsequent continuous I pictures are recorded after the start code of an I picture. A signal processing part 12 extracts the position information on the I pictures out of the disk data which are read out by a transmission part 10 and stores them in a memory 18. In a fast reproducing operation mode, a control part 26 sets the prescribed waiting time at a timer 20 based on a designated double-speed number. The position information on the I picture to be restored next is read out of the memory 18 in response to the set waiting time, and the pickup of the part 10 has an access to the position of the I picture. When the waiting time passed, the part 12 restores the data on the I picture and outputs them via an output part 14. The waiting time is previously set in consideration of the access time, etc., so that the largest number of I pictures can be reproduced in response to the double-speed number.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
