PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a pipe design similar to expert's design even when a user does not have sufficient knowledge or experience related to the design of a pipe to be formed by winding a face-like member by determining the design parameter of the face-like member capable of satisfying an internal design specification by the use of face-like member knowledge. SOLUTION: The external specification of a pipe and customer information are inputted from an input means 1 at first. Then, an internal design specification is automatically determined from the inputted external specification and customer information by the use of design specification knowledge 6 and the determined internal design specification is outputted to a display means 4. Then, a design drawing including the design parameter of the face-like member is automatically determined from the internal design specification by the use of design drawing knowledge 7. Namely, a processing means 3 retrieves the item of a design drawing having high correlation with respective items of the internal design specification from the knowledge 7 and executes processing successively from the design drawing having high correlation and the smallest number of items. The processing means 3 determines items for the design drawing by the use of information obtained from the knowledge 7.
