PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain proper exposure control by discriminating appropriate back light and excessive follow light for a video camera or the like. ;SOLUTION: An iris control circuit 9 writes an object tracking detection image signal S4 to an image memory 10. The object tracking detection image signal S4 written in the image memory 10 is read by a tracking signal processing circuit 11. The tracking signal processing circuit 11 uses the object tracking detection image signal S4 to be read to extract an object, to calculate an object luminance and a luminance histogram of a pattern and then calculates proper exposure control variable from the information above and gives an iris control signal S9 to an iris motor 12.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
