PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the average access time to a low-speed device by efficiently performing the storage and the retrieval of data on a cache in a hierarchical storage system. SOLUTION: Competition is evaded and the data are efficiently stored and retrieved by obtaining temporary addresses 10 capable of being simultaneously stored in the cache without competing with each other by securing an area 7 for the temporary addresses for the plural data 8 incapable of being simultaneously stored in the cache since data addresses compete with each other, making the addresses correspond to the data addresses 11 of the data 8 one to one, registering the correspondence in an address conversion butter 4 and storing the data 8 in the cache as if they are present in the temporary addresses 10.
