PURPOSE: To provide a model for ultra-supersonic intake wind tunnel conformable to a severe test and allowing the visualization of the air flow by schlieren method. ;CONSTITUTION: This model 1 has a downward channel-like external area 5 having a plurality of small rooms formed on both side walls 2 having a sweepback angle and an upper wall 3 inner surface in which the sectional area is reduced in air flow direction by a lamp 10 having air extracting mechanisms 19, 21, and an internal area 7 continued thereto in which the lower parts of both the side walls 2 are closed by a cowl 6 having an air extracting mechanism having a plurality of small rooms. The lamp part of the external area 5 and the throat part 8 and diffuser part 9 of the internal area 7 are variable in sectional area, and a schlieren observing window 23 having a visual range extending to the lamp part, the throat part, and a part of the diffuser part is provided. The window 23 has a double structure consisting of a homogeneous quartz glass having high parallelism as the outside glass and a plate glass less than 1mm thick having a hardness higher than the quartz glass as the inside glass, and the inside glass is fitted to make the same level as the side wall inner surface.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
