The present invention discloses a process for halogenated vinylic polymers latex quality control, during aqueous emulsion polymerization, wherein a luminous irradiation is directly incident on the aqueous emulsion, the diffuse light, which is reflected by latex polymer particles, within the spectral band located between 1100 and 2500 nm is received and transmitted to a proximal infrared spectrophotometer, and the reflected diffused light having particular wave length values which are related by correlation equations to controlled latex specific properties, is measured. A device for controlling the quality of latex in a reactor during polymerization is also disclosed which essentially comprises a measured probe placed in the reactor, an optical connection between said probe and the proximal infrared spectrophotometer, said proximal infrared spectrophotometer being provided with means for radiating light, and receiving the reflected diffuse light, and a computer having correlation equations stored in the memory thereof.
