Process and apparatus for separating sand from waste water charged with sand or organic substances

A description is given of a process and an apparatus for separating sand from waste water charged with sand and organic substances, which is passed from a sand trap 1, provided with an overflow 6 for organic substances, to a sand washer 3, where it is set in a circulating flow, in which the organic substances are moved upwards to an overflow 4, while the sand drops downwards and is discharged. To create advantageous separating conditions, it is proposed that the organic substances flowing away out of the sand washer 3 are comminuted and fed with the overflow water back to the sand trap 1.
