A water-dilutable road-marking paint (I) contains an additive (II) which is introduced with or immediately after the paint, and which increases its viscosity (measured at a shear rate of 20 s-1) to at least 3 times its original value, pref. at least to the consistency of a knifing filler. Also claimed is: (i) a process for shortening the time before which road marking paint may be driven over, by contacting the paint system with (II) during or immediately after application; (ii) a process for marking roads with paint system (I).
