Pressing to form a relatively long cylindrical body, called a two-part beverage can, can drive a relatively short cup through a circular die pack using a horizontal reciprocating ram. The compressed air applied through the rotary valve separates the body from the ram. Such a valve includes a continuously rotating rotor mechanically connected to the drive of the ram, and in rotation of each rotor, the ram provides a complete cycle of forward and reverse back and forth operations. The rotor consists of two disks that are butted against each other. The rotor drive shaft extends through the center of the rotor and the angular position of the disk relative to each other is adjustable to control the portion of each rotor rotation and during which the compressed air is applied for separation. Each disc is provided with an arcuate hole, and the overlapping of these holes determines how deeply the compressed air is applied for separation. At each position of the rotor in the drive shaft, it is determined when the compressed air is applied for separation.
