The imaging system has a video camera supplying video signals to a computer (4), for digitalising and conversion into a telefax format to allow transmission to a remote peripheral (8,13), for display of the digital images, via a data line (6,7). The digitalising of the video signals by the computer can be controlled from separate control and monitoring device, e.g. a telefax device, a telephone, or a further computer.
