The unit drives a wheel (2) to which torque is transmitted by an internally toothed wheel (5) and a pinion (6) immobilised in rotation with respect to the output shaft (AW) of the motor. The hub (20) is supported in a bearing (12) and driven by a planetary gear (7) including a sun wheel (8) fixed to the axle, a hollow wheel (9) and a bar (11). The hollow wheel (9) comprises a toothed portion, a seating (14) for the bearing, and a connecting part which functions as an adjustment plate for the axial play. The internally toothed wheel (5) is mounted directly in a ball bearing (19) which takes up the axial guidance.
