Method and apparatus for the production of optical elements for the capillary optical system

The process forms optical elements used in capillary optics. The element micro-channels are hermetically sealed at both ends and heated up to plasticity. Inside the channels, the pressure is increased above atmospheric. The combination of internal pressure and plasticity expands the vol. of the channels. The increase in vol. is limited by a constraint. Also claimed are: (i) a unit to make optical elements for capillary optical systems. An oven or furnace (4), as appropriate, surrounds a hermetically-sealed chamber (6), which contains the elements, itself sealed at both ends; and (ii) the use of the finished element for x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, microscopy or tomography.
