The bolt cutter has two symmetrically operating cutting jaws (7) joined by a connecting element (1). The joints (3) of the hand levers (2) are separated from each other by a bridge section (6) such that in the open position of the cutters, the connecting joints (4) of the jaws are arranged almost on the lever dead point between the joints. The connecting joints of the jaws are arranged such that for the majority of the working area they lie in a flat plane. this plane extends between the maximum and minimum angles between the hand lever joints.
