The system is based on a main unit (10), two presence detectors (12) at the entrance and exit, and for each voter a portable handset (14) with three voting keys (34) and four light-emitting diodes (36,38). Each handset is programmed for a particular poll at a secure station (26) linked to a computer (28) with a printer (30) and mass memory (32). The handsets communicate by radio with the main unit equipment (16) which is also linked with a computer (18), printer (22) and mass memory (24) and may display (20) the numbers of affirmative and negative votes and abstentions received.
