The method concerns a method of stowing 20 ft containers in ships' holds which are designed to accept 40 ft container. Two 20 ft containers are placed end to end in the space intended for one 40 ft container. The abutting end faces of the two containers are connected to each other by plates (7). Each plate (7) has two conical projections (9) which engage sockets in the corners of the containers (3). A central projection (8) between the conical projections (9) forms a spacer between the containers (3). USE - Stowing containers in a ships' hold.
