A work station particularly adapted for usein a uniform open floor plan. The work station has ahorizontal work surface having a front edge and a rearedge, a support member for supporting the horizontalwork surface, a first trough located in an area beneaththe horizontal work surface, and a second trough at alocation displaced vertically below the first troughwhereby the first and the second troughs defineseparate substantially horizontal passageways for thelaying-in of cabling. In a further aspect, there isprovided an office furniture system comprising aplurality of like work station modules aligned along alinearly extending course, each work station moduleoccupying substantially the same area. Each workstation module comprises a closed side along thelinearly extending course, an open side opposite theclosed side, a horizontal work surface, a supportmember connected to and supporting the horizontal worksurface, a first trough parallel to the linearlyextending course, a second trough at a locationdisplaced vertically below the first trough andparallel to the linearly extending course so that thefirst and the second troughs define separatesubstantially horizontal passageways for electrical,communications, and data cables and the like.
