The process is for mfg. a lightning conductor comprising a stack of zinc oxide discs (100) having slightly different diameters which are covered by a flexible tube (300) of composite material. Metal contact pieces (200) are attached to each end of the stack. The whole section formed is covered with an extruded outer tube (400), to which outer fins (500) are attached. The extruded tube takes up the slack between the inner flexible tube and the zinc oxide stacks, eliminating the air gap around the varistors and sealing them. USE/ADVANTAGE - Lightning conductor connectable between HV line, of voltage greater than 1 kV, and ground for limiting amplitude of overvoltages appearing on line. Reliability is improved and cost is reduced.
