The control device includes an electronic power controller (103) which controls the propulsion motor (M) and which receives signals from rotational speed sensors in the motor (104) and driven axles (105), from a gear-change controller (111), and also from an sensor detecting accelerator position (106). At each gear change, the controller runs the change-motor (61), which, through reduction gears, turns the geneva-wheel (85) on the shaft of the selector drum (62) through 60 degrees. The gear-change forks, engaging in cam grooves on the drum, are then moved axially, disengaging one gear and engaging the next, in the adjacent gearbox (T), while the overall controller (103) reduces motor power, receiving initiation (95) and completion (96) switch signals. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for light electric vehicles, e.g. tricycles. Smooth ratio changes effected without having to operate shift lever or clutch.
