Reinforced component esp. for vehicle bodywork trim

The component, either flat or elongated in shape, consists of a layer (1), esp. of a thermoplastic material acting as its core, having an inner face (2) and an outer face (3), the latter being reinforced with one or more ribs (4). The ribs are made in the form of tubular bars (5) enclosed in the mass of the component, situated on its inner surface to give it a locally increased rigidity. The tubular bars (5) are situated at least partially round the periphery (6) of the component and adjacent to the zones designed to receive auxiliary fittings. The component, e.g. a vehicle door trim panel, is moulded between two matrices which provide for local zones of extra thickness to form the ribs.
