A composition for the promotion of cell proliferation and tissue repair in animals having as active ingredients a TGF-&bgr; which is activated by either a TGF-&agr; or an EGF or both; and methods for administration. As another embodiment these active ingredients can be admixed with other (secondary) growth factors.
