PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a solvent which can easily and rapidly dissolve red iron oxide, black iron oxide, sand grain, red iron oxide adhered to and penetrated into a steel article, a textile, stone, brick, tiles, concrete or the like, a black deposition in a spring, a Chinese ink, an oil-base ink or a lacquer under alkaline conditions without adversely affecting the human body so much and without damaging the material. ;SOLUTION: This solvent is prepared by mixing an organic acid having chelating effect in water without fail, such as a water-soluble dithionite such as sodium hydrosulfite, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid or hydroxamic acid (except thioglycolic acid) with either hydrazine or its hydrate or a dithionite, mixing the obtained mixture optionally with other reducing agents having no oxidizing properties and alkalifying the resulting mixture. In use, the solvent is sprayed at once onto the object and is left as such for 5-10min, it is infiltrated into waste cloth or a nylon brush, which is used to rub off the contamination from the object, or it is sprayed onto the object, which is rubbed at once with e.g. a polisher or a deck brush to remove the contamination therefrom, washed with water immediately or after 30min standing and then dried in air.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
