PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove impurities in a polysaccharide derivative, and to obtain a filler having less amount of eluted substance from the polysaccharide derivative, by washing a filler obtained by coating a carrier with a polysaccharide derivative, with a solvent containing bases. SOLUTION: For the polysaccharide, cellulose and amylose are especially fabarable. And, for the polysaccharide derivative, a compound wherein 80-100% of hydroxyl groups of a polysaccharide are replaced with substituents, a carbamate derivative having urethane bonds for example is especially favorable. As a carrier, a porous inorganic carrier is favorable, and silica, alumina, etc., are appropriate. This polysaccharide derivative is dissolved in an organic solvent, and a carrier is mixed with the dissolved solution. After agitation, the organic solvent is distilled off, and the carrier is coated with the polysaccharide derivative, the coated carrier is washed by adding bases to an aliphatic hydrocarbon favorable as a washing solvent, and impurities which will remain after being washed in the case of the solvent only are removed by changing them into derivatives, and the quantity of eluted substance is reduced. Consequently, it is possible to obtain a filler having less amount of eluted substance from the polysaccharide derivative.
