PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the thin wire of a Ni-Ti series alloy in large quantities and at a low cost by forming a composite element wire by covering plural alloy element wires on which a straight-line memorizing treatment is executed while holding the element wires in the state of higher temp. than the transformation temp. of the element wire and by executing the straight-line memorizing treatment after achieving a desired size of the thin wire and, successively, repeating cold diameter-reducing work and annealing. ;SOLUTION: The composite body element wire is manufactured by imparting super- elastic property to element wires 1 of the Ni-Ti alloy through the straight-line memorizing treatment in argon gas and by inserting them into a metallic jacket material 2 so that each wire is parallel. One end of this composite element wire is drawn with a swager and the metallic jacket material 2 and the element wires 1 of the Ni-Ti base alloy are drawn until they are completely closely adhered. Next, annealing and cold drawing are repeated to this composite element wire. Next, after executing the straight-line memorizing treatment to the composite element wire, the covering tube is removed. In this way, the good thin wire whose surface oxidation is reduced, cross- sectional shape is approximately constant and wires are not broken is obtained.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
