PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the development of fine crack on the surface of a cast slab and to improve the quality of a cast slab and the yield of a product. ;SOLUTION: The film thickness of coating agent 10 coated on endless belt 1 is set large in the case of high casting speed and small in the case of low casting speed corresponding to casting speed and average heat flow flux in the range A within 4mm solidified shell thickness is restrained below the reference value (200×104kcal/m2.hr). By this method, strain concentration at the time of solidifying is prevented by uniformizing the solidified shell and the development of the fine crack on the surface of the cast slab is eliminated, and the quality of the cast slab and the yield of the product are improved.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
