PURPOSE: To provide the method for computing a raw material-retaining time, especially for displaying the position of a raw materials switching site. ;CONSTITUTION: The continuous digester comprises one or more zones. The volume Vi of each zone, the packing factor PF_ji ((j) expresses the kind of a raw material, and (i) expresses the site of the zone) of each zone for each raw material the volume CV_(n) of the supplied raw material at a time (n) comprising prescribed time units T_unit and the kind of the raw material are memorized in a computer. The supply time (n_xi) of the raw material to be placed at the lower end of the number (k) zone from the tip of the digester at the time (n) is estimated on the basis of a specific equation from the data, and the retaining time RTN_k of the raw material until reaching the lower end of the zone (k) is determined on a specific equation, the raw material being supplied from the tip of the digester at the time (n).
