PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lower the electric resistance of leads and to simultaneously prevent the insulation defect of the leads and upper shield of an MR type magnetic head of a shielding type. ;SOLUTION: The lower shield 48 is formed to an area smaller than the area of the upper shield 70. The lead 58 is formed by dividing the lead to a thin part 58a formed within the reproducing gap 68 between the upper and lower shields 70 and 48 and thick part 58a formed to project downward by deviating the end 48a in the depth direction of the lower shield 48 without forming a difference in level atop the lead 58. The thin part 58a of the lead and the thick part 58b of the lead are interconnected in a contact hole 64 formed in the reproducing gap layer 60 of the lower layer.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
