The control includes an electronic central control unit (1) receiving a signal from the engine to generate parameters to control the injection to the engine. A parameter calculating unit (3) receives a speed signal and a supercharge signal to generate the engine operating parameters, such as speed (N), the quantity (Q) of fuel injected and a quantised, digitised supercharge pressure (Ps). The parameters generated by the calculating unit are received by a control device (4) which at each engine cycle generates a desired injection pressure value (Po), which is supplied to and is used by a regulating unit (5) to control the injection pressure. The control device has three processing units (6,7,8), which generate a series of injection pressures to determine an optimum value.
