The current transformer of the invention for high/medium voltage installations has a magneto-sensitive device which is connected to a surface wave structure as a terminating element of a surface wave arrangement. The reply signal of the surface wave arrangement is the information on current intensity/direction and phase of the current momentarily flowing in the installation which is evaluated by the ground station. Radio transmission means that there are no electrical insulation problems and the use of a radio-interrogatable surface wave arrangement makes the section of the whole current transformer at high potential a passive component thereof.
