Wear and corrosion resistant low friction medical scissors

Medical scissors are coated, at least in the region of the cutting edges (18), with an amorphous thin film containing silicon, carbon and hydrogen, the silicon content being up to 100 (up to 95, especially 10-90) at.% at the interface with the metallic scissors body and being up to 30 (up to 20) at.% in the external surface region. The film is 0.5-5 (0.5-2) mu m thick and, at the surface, consists of up to 50 at.% hydrogen and balance carbon. Also claimed is production of the above scissors, in which the amorphous thin film is deposited, by PECVD, after fine machining of the metallic body of the scissors.
