The method involves determining the deviation of the moment or force acting on the bearing of the first plane from a normal value. This deviation is used as a signal for the deviation of the position of the wheel or set of wheels from the middle position in the track channel to identify the wheel path. The determined deviation of the wheel position may be used as a signal to control the running of the wheel in the track channel. The measurement of force or moment at a wheel bearing may, by an additional inertial measurement of the acceleration and rotation rate and angle, indicate whether the deviation is due to a different load distribution or to a deviation of the wheel position from the middle position.
