Method of controlling the operation of an excavator having an electronic micromodule, in particular for automatically controlling the speed ratio between the rotary and boom action of the excavator, which through the use of an electronic control unit with micromodules, sensors, etc., enables the operator to carry out the digging work simply and precisely. The control method according to the invention uses the angular velocity for the rotary and boom operation. The angular velocity depends on the position of the dump truck and is set by the operator in the input/output panel of the control unit. When the digging work is carried out, the operator actuates the operating lever for the rotation and the boom as far as possible and the control unit permits a rotary operation for moving the excavator into the desired position without a lump of earth being dropped. When the operator actuates the operating lever for the bucket arm and the bucket in the same way, the bucket arm and the bucket are moved into a position in which the truck is located.
