The present invention relates to the preparation of carboxylic acids or the corresponding esters by reaction of carbon monoxide, with at least a reagent chosen from among alcohols, halides, alkyl or aryl ethers or esters, in the presence of a catalytic system comprising at least one compound of rhodium, at least one compound of the iridium or at least one compound of these two metals, and at least one promoter.
