A position sensor 25 for detecting the change in the position relative to the machine frame 3 operates together with the ballast leveling device 20. A control unit 31 is equipped with a memory unit for storing desired ballast profiles. By using these, a track section having shortage or excess ballast is recognized and the control of the ballast leveling device 20 becomes possible.
