PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for controlling tracking servo to prevent an objective lens from vibrating at the time of high-speed search. ;SOLUTION: According to this method for controlling tracking servo, it is confirmed whether or not a distance between a target track and the present track where a pickup is located at present is longer than a first distance. When the distance between the target track and present track is longer than the first distance, both ends 72, 76 of a tracking coil 32 where a driving current runs to move an objective lens 30 are shortcircuited. When the distance between the target track and the present track becomes shorter than a second distance as the pickup moves towards the target track, the ends 72, 76 of the tracking coil 32 are opened.
