PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently bring an adjoining seedling close to a target test seedling when a cell deficient in seedling or a defective seedling is examined. ;SOLUTION: The lack of a seedling on an examining/removing tray 18 is detected by a detecting plate 36 and the culture soil of a detected cell 18a deficient in seedling is sucked and removed by a vacuum nozzle 52. The vacuum nozzle 52 is movably installed above the examining/removing tray 18. When the cell 8a deficient in seedling is detected, air is slantingly jetted by an air blow nozzle attached to the lower part of the detecting plate 36 from below upward toward the central side of the detecting plate 36 and a seedling adjoining to the right or left of the cell is brought close to the cell. In this state, the vacuum nozzle 52 is dropped. Then the bottom of the vacuum nozzle 52 is brought into contact with the top of the cell 18a deficient in seedling and culture soil of the cell 18a deficient in seedling is sucked by vacuum.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
