PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize the heating area in weld-sealing and improve the working efficiency and life characteristic by weld-sealing the opening end part of a quartz-made straight bulb to the flare part of a quartz-made light emitting tube end part arranged within the bulb and having electrode bodies airtightly sealed to both end parts thereof. ;SOLUTION: An arc tube 3 consisting of a quartz glass tube having electrode bodies 2 airtightly sealed therein is inserted into a straight bulb 1 consisting of quartz glass, and the bulb 1 is held by a chuck 4a. Both ends of the arc tube 3 are flared so as to throttle the parts where the molybdenum foils of the electrodes 2 are situated, the lead parts of the electrode bodies are covered in the state nipped by the inside of a heat resisting straight tube 5, and the straight tube 5 is held by a chuck 4b. A burner 7 is set in a direction having a horizontal angle θ of 30°-45° to heat and seal the opening end part of the straight bulb 1 to the flared end part of the arc tube 3. The thickness of the fused part is substantially constant by the fusing work by coaxial rotation, so that the leakage can be prevented.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
