PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a simple and easy measurement without applying a pretreatment such as washing or grinding even at a narrow part such as inside of a pipe in the measurement of a residual stress of a metal material. ;SOLUTION: A plurality of indents 1 formed into polygonalpyramid are fixed on a head part 2 of a marker at a specified interval with the top of each pyramid as the tip thereof and the head part 2 of the marker is pressed onto the surface of metal to apply inscriptions thereon with the indents 1. Thereafter, the metal thus inscribed is separated from the perimeter thereof to release a stress. The distance between the inscriptions measured in a state where the stress is released is compared with that between the tips of the indents 1 to measure a residual stress of the metal.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
