PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, by which the varistor voltages of varistor elements can be controlled arbitrarily according to applications, even when varistor materials having the same material characteristics, such as construction materials, composition, crystal grain size, etc., and the same shape characteristic. such as the thickness, etc., are used without being restricted by the arrangement of electrodes, the shapes, etc., of the varistor materials, and in addition, to provide a variable varistor voltage control element. ;SOLUTION: A variable varistor voltage control element comprises a varistor material 12 and at least two electrodes 14a, 14b, 16a, and 16b provided to the varistor material 12 and is constituted to variably control the varistor voltage of a varistor element by setting the intervals among the electrodes 14a, 14b, 16a and 16b and impressing a bias potential upon the varistor material 12 by using at least one (16a and 16b) of the electrodes 14a, 14b, 16a, and 16b and then, variably controlling the varistor voltage.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
