PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a habitable mat that can be built in a short time and at a low cost by utilizing wood chips, which has a simple construction, a light weight with excellent portability and is capable of building a greening habitable region at the levee of a river or lake for aquatic animals and plants, a revetment structure using the mat for a river, a bottom structure using the mat for a river, marsh or lake, and a revetment building method using the mat for river, marsh or lake. SOLUTION: A mat 10 for the habitat of aquatic animals and plants is formed by filling up a water permeable bag having a plurality of pores permitting the entry and exit of the aquatic animals and plants with wood chips and then closing the mouth of the bag; a plurality of pile members 36 are driven into the ground at the shore of a face of slope of a levee 34; the habitat mat 10 is arranged in contact with the pile members 36; and a space between the habitat mat 10 and the face of slope of the levee is filled up with a supporting bed. Also, the habitat mat 10 is laid on a river floor or lake bottom, and a dead weight is stacked on the top surface of the mat thereby constituting a bottom structure.
