2,2-DIMETHYL-4,4'-BIS(4-AMINOPHENOXY)BIPHENYL AND POLYMER PREPARED BY POLYCONDENSATION OF THE SAME COMPOUND

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound comprising a non-coplanar specific biphenylene and a flexible allyl part and useful in production of polyamide, polyimide and poly(amide-imide) excellent in rod-like properties, heat stability and solubility. ;SOLUTION: This 2,2-dimethyl-4,4'-bis(4-aminophenoxy)biphenyl is represented by the formula. The compound of the formula is obtained by condensing 2,2'- dimethylbiphenyl-4,4'-diol with p-chloronitrobenzene in the presence of potassium carbonate in dimethylformamide at a prescribed temperature for a prescribed time (e.g. at 160°C for 8 hr) to synthesize a dinitro compound and dropping hydrazine-hydrate to the dinitro compound in the presence of palladium carbide and ethanol and reducing the dinitro compound for a prescribed time (e.g. 24 hr) while further refluxing the mixture.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
