PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image quality test phantom and method for automatically monitoring and evaluating image quality in a digital fluoroscopic and photographic system. ;SOLUTION: An image quality test phantom tool has a composite phantom 25, a means for preparing a digital image of the composite phantom, and a processing means applied to the digital image of the composite phantom to calculate an X-ray system image quality measure. The composite phantom includes a resolution pattern 18, a detail contrast phantom 20, a stepped wedge 16, and an inserted and secured body 15 having a line phantom 22 of lead. In order to automatically evaluate the image quality of a system, the digital image of the composite phantom is prepared, and the processing means is applied to the digital image to calculate the X-ray system image quality measure.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
