This invention provides a method of providing estrogen therapy orsupplementation in a mammal in need thereof, wherein an elevation in prolactin levelsconcomitant with said estrogenic supplementation is undesirable in said mammal,which comprises administering an effective amount of 8,9-dehydroestrone or apharmaceutically acceptable salt of its 3-sulfate ester to said mammal.
