The present invention provides methods for treatingreclaimed sand obtained from dismantled foundry moldsand cores which contain a cured binder derived from anester cured alkaline phenolic resin. Treatment of thereclaimed sand with a silane solution, particularly anaqueous solution, enhances the tensile strengths offoundry molds and cores produced therefrom beyond thoseobtained with untreated reclaimed sand. Methods forproducing foundry cores and molds which incorporate sucha treatment process are also provided by this inventionas are raw batch formulations.
