The invention relates to a method for producing TiO2 according to the sulfate method. According to the inventive method, the moist metatitanic acid filter cake (1) is fed through a dryer (2) before entering the furnace (6) provided for calcination. The filter cake is predried in said dryer until a residual moisture ranging from 0.01 to 25 % at 100 to 190 °C is obtained.
